YouTube, Man

Holla people of earth!

Today I am going to share something with you. I am addicted to this website called Youtube, perhaps you've heard of it. Phew, I'm glad I got that off my chest.  Anyways, my favourite "youtuber" is Kick the PJ. He makes magical, creative, British videos. Plus he also does awesome drawings and writes music. I love his Tiny Planet Explorer video and also his Backpack Jetpack video. His videos always inspire me to make something. He's just so darn creative. Also he's not bad on the eyes...wink wink. Well here's the picture....

I have a confession to make about this painting/drawing. I didn't actually do it today. I did it awhile ago. I feel bad about that, but I just couldn't make a drawing I like today.

I hope you have a lovely, wonderful, magical, incandescent, fun and exciting evening. NOT! hahah just kidding.

P.S. I also like this video that PJ made.

YOU KNOW IT WHEN YOU SEE IT

Yo!

I saw Capital Cities on Monday and they were great! I don't think I've ever been happier at a concert. It was the last show for the band so they played for a really long time and then did a DJ session after. I danced like crazy and even smacked someone in the head (accidentally). It was a great night. So that's what I'm saying my obsession was today. The happiest band in the world.

I don't have much to say about this drawing... You can decide what it is for yourself.

Why see the world when you've got the beach?

Holla!

In today's episode of Hanna's obsession I will be sharing two or maybe three things that I love. They are, Frank Ocean, The Bling Ring and Sofia Coppola. I wanted to do this post about Frank Ocean mainly, but I couldn't think of anything to draw that would fit into my style and then I remembered that one of his songs is in the end of the movie The Bling Ring and voila I had an idea. The Bling Ring is about a group of teenagers that steal from a whole bunch of celebrities houses by just walking into their unlocked houses. Emma Watson is amazing in this movie because she is just the opposite of herself in every way. Also Sofia Coppola's movies are always really beautiful to look at. Now onto why Frank Ocean is awesome. I am not actually sure why I like him. It's weird because he is an R&B type singer, and if you have seen any of my other posts you will know that I like alternative, British music. I just can't explain why I like him. I don't know!

So there it is. Hooray!

Have a joyous evening! I'm going to see Capital Cities in concert! AHHH!

SKULLS

Hey there folks!

I bet you are wondering what I am obsessed with today. No, it's not real skulls or even drawing of skulls. It is one of the new songs from Bastille. I was thinking earlier today that I can't do this because I did my very first post about Bastille, but then I remembered, it's my own darn blog and I can do whatever I want. I am still obsessed with Bastille and there is nothing that can stop me. I like this song a lot and you should listen to it. Yes, I mean you!

I chose to do a sugar skull because of the line "a match is our only light, it's day of the dead, I'm Indiana Jones here" and also I really like what sugar skulls look like. It's lovely when two things you love come together and make something even better.

Well that's it for today.

Triangles are my favourite shape

Bonjour!

By the title of this blog post you might think that I am going to talk about my favourite geometric shape, but that is not the case! Although I do love triangles and both of my pieces for my sculpture class are made up of only triangles....  Anyways, I'm going to talk about one of my favourite bands! Alt-J! Hip hip hooray! They are a band from Leeds, England and they play weird, alternative, experimental music that is wonderful. The lead singer, Joe Newman, doesn't really sound like he is saying actual words so singing along is kind of difficult. I went to an Alt-J concert and my friend Kira has a hilarious video of the audience trying to sing along with the songs and failing miserably. It was such an awesome concert though. It was raining and thundering and lightninging which made everything feel very dramatic. Also I should mention that the alt-j is the keyboard shortcut for the delta symbol, which is a triangle.

This is actually just a page from my sketchbook while I was listening to an Alt-J concert on youtube. It's not particularly clear that it is about Alt-J, but the intention was there!

I did cartwheels in your honor.

Yo yo yo!

Florence and the Machine. I love Florence and the Machine so so so so much. I aspire to one day be as amazing and magical as Florence Welch. It is my life goal. If that is unattainable then I would like to see her in concert. Guess what I'm doing right now. Watching interviews with Florence Welch. Guess what I did yesterday. Watched a Florence and the Machine concert on youtube. She's just the bomb. I can't even put into words why. She just is.

So there you go. A page from my sketchbook done in sharpie and acrylic paint.

Have a great day.

P.S. I obviously need to put some links to my favourite songs so here you go. Over the Love and Only If For A Night

The sad truth is that the truth is sad.

Well hello there! Let's talk about authors. There's this one guy named Lemony Snicket, well actually Daniel Handler, who is amazing!!! Perhaps you've heard of him. I remember reading A Series of Unfortunate Events with my mom when I was a kid and loving it. Going back and reading quotes from the books I'm glad that was part of my childhood. I love Lemony Snicket's writing style and all of his wonderful analogies. Some of my favourites are:
“Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like.”
“It is always sad when someone leaves home, unless they are simply going around the corner and will return in a few minutes with ice-cream sandwiches".
I also love “If writers wrote as carelessly as some people talk, then adhasdh asdglaseuyt[bn[ pasdlgkhasdfasdf.”

Ahhhh there are so many more good ones. Another thing that I love are the dedications at the beginnings of A Series of Unfortunate Events books. I'm just going to put a picture with all of them because I can't pick just one favourite.

They're so sad, but darkly funny. Here's my picture for Lemony Snicket. It's a quote about a cat....

I hope you don't have a series of unfortunate events, but instead, a lovely day.
Hanna

P.S. Another thing that I forgot to mention that I love about Lemony Snicket is that in one of the A Series of Unfortunate Events book he filled a whole page with black and another one he jut repeated the same page over so readers would understand deja-vu. Genius.

Casual Wear Aficionado

Hello!

Today I would like to confess something.... I'm not fashionable. No matter how hard I try (I don't try that hard) I will never be one of those awesome artists with their vintage purses and scarves. Do you want to know why? It's because I love t-shirts and hoodies and yoga pants. I love comfortable clothes. Sue me! This last few months have been T-shirt central. Especially because of all of the new concerts I have been to. I mean, you have to get a band shirt if you go to a concert! So that is who I will send this love letter/drawings out to today, the inventors of the modern t-shirt. Thank you.

There they are. Life advice on black and white t-shirts.

Have a great day!

"This is ridiculous" "This, Madam, is Versailles"

Heyyy

Another day has passed and so I have another one of my obsessions to share. I think it's safe to say that I'm just a fangirl at heart. Today (and for the past few years) my obsession is Marie Antoinette. I first discovered who she was when I read one of those Diary of a Princess books that were like fake diary entries about a real historical figures when they were young. I read this book and thought she was so important and classy (this book didn't say that she was beheaded and was really narcissistic and greedy). Then I saw the Sofia Coppola movie, and it was so stylized and beautiful and excessive, and my interest was peaked. Also the 1938 movie Marie Antoinette is really good. It has the same excess and stylized quality as Sofia Coppola version. I've been looking for a good biography to read, but whenever I look at Chapters I am disappointed. Maybe I should ask for one as a Christmas present.

Fun fact: Marie Antoinette was one of the first people to have gossip headlines written about her. She was treated how celebrities are often treated in this day and age.

Of course I had to include "let them eat cake", even though historians aren't sure she even said that.

Check out both version of Marie Antoinette if you can! From a purely visual stand point they are gorgeous.

Everything is Embarrassing...

Yo!

When I came up with this blog idea I didn't know what direction it would take me in, but the more I think about it, the more it becomes about music. So yes I did another drawing of a musician. This time it is the super cool, Sky Ferreira. I first heard about her through Nylon magazine or possibly the Rookie Yearbook interview with her. I can't remember! I love her 80's revival and she has a really cool voice. Blah blah blah I'm obsessed with her and I need to buy her new album. There's this quote by John Green that I find becomes more accurate each day of my life, it goes, "some people have lives and some people have music". How true this is. I should do a post about John Green someday soon. Any who, here's the picture.

I think I made her kind of look like a Tim Burton character, so I am quite pleased with this. And yes, adults suck and then you become one. I'm in the transition and it's not pretty.

Here's a few links to my favourite songs by Sky Ferreira: Everything is Embarrassing and Sad Dream

Hanna

I remember him in a purple sweater

Bonjour!
Today I would like to talk about the movie Beginners. I just watched it yesterday and it was SO GREAT! I'm not going to give a plot synopsis or anything because I'm not that good at it and IMDb is. The movie is so sweet and sad and funny and quirky and it's filled with art and I'm so happy I watched it. In the movie the main character, Oliver, has a dog named Arthur that talks to him only through subtitles so that's what I decided to draw.

I hope you have a wonderful day filled with wonder and happiness.

She stabbed him in the back with lefty scissors!

If you can tell what movie I'm going to be talking about today then I applaud you, if not then what are you doing with your life?? The movie, of course, is Moonrise Kingdom which is directed by the genius Wes Anderson. I think I love this movie so much because of the precocious children, how everything is so dramatic and (obviously) the visuals. Everything fits so perfectly into the world of the movie. I want to read the books that Suzy packs with her! Sadly they do not exist. You can buy a notebook with the cover of "COPING WITH THE VERY TROUBLED CHILD" on etsy.

I did a silly painting of Sam meeting Suzy. I used acrylic paints and sharpie for this.

Well that's all I have for today... Go buy Moonrise Kingdom!
BYE!
Hanna

One more quote to end the post...
Sam: Sometimes I stick leaves on my hair. It helps cool your head down.
Suzy: Hmm. That's a good idea. It might also help if you didn't wear a fur hat.

The Ginger

Yo!

Today I would like to talk about another one of my favourite singers, Ed Sheeran. Yes, I only listen to British music. My obsession with Ed Sheeran started on a cloudy September 7th in 2012 when I saw his concert. It was a spur of the moment decision to go, meaning that we had to get tickets from a scalper, and it was terrifying. It was all worth it in the end because it was probably the best concert I have ever been to. I would love to see him again.

These are lyrics from his song A Team. I'm not sure if I like this painting, but it will have to do for today.
Hanna

And, of course, here are some links to my favourite Ed Sheeran songs: Give Me Love, You Need Me, I Don't Need You

Why I love the movies...

Well hello there.

Today I did a drawing of one of my favourite foods ever. POPCORN. I crave it all the time and when ever I go to the movies I buy a huge bag of popcorn and eat so much that I feel like I will never want popcorn again... until the next time I go to the movies. It is a never ending cycle. I go to the movie theater quite a lot so this is actually a problem in my life. Wow, first world problem...

There I am in all of my glory. I also did a sketch earlier that I will share because I find it kind of hilarious.

If you look at the pictures in reverse order it looks like I'm an overly attached girlfriend or something. Awkward...

Cheerio!

Do I Wanna Know

Hoy hoy!

I would like to take a moment to appreciate the Arctic Monkeys, especially since a year ago I did not. I have only started listening to them recently, but damn, they rock. My friend Kira is to thank/blame for this obsession because she was the one that said "Hanna, you must listen to this band" and now here I am professing my love in blog form. So that's something. Also the lead singer, Alex Turner, is hotttt.

I made this by: drawing a sketch, then painting it in using watercolours, then going over some areas with sharpie to define the line and then finally messing with it in Photoshop.

Thanks for letting me fangirl for a little bit. It's nice of you.
Hanna

Here are some links to my favourite Arctic Monkeys songs: here, here, here.

Welcome to my world I guess...

Hello!

This is the very first post on my blog so I might as well tell you what it will be about. Lately I have been wanting to share my drawing and painting and other various artistic endeavors with a wider audience, but just putting random pictures seemed boring, so I came up with an idea...

The idea is this: Do a drawing/painting everyday (hopefully) about something I am obsessed with at that moment. You might thinking, "Hanna, how can you possibly be have something new to draw every day? Are you really obsessed with that many things? Are you crazy?" and the answer, of course, is YES! And so without further ado, here is my first drawing.

This is my rendition of Laura Palmer from Twin Peaks. I have never seen this show, but there is a song by my favourite band of the moment Bastille and it is amazing. I LOVE this band and this is a tribute to them.

If you're reading this, THANK YOU!
Hanna

P.S. Here is a link to my favourite song by Bastille.
